Give the people what they want @abc!!!," wrote one fan. Another wrote, "@valentin yes, please. Teasing us about season 34 and then making us wait until September is cruel. Tsk tsk." A third fan added, "@valentin I agree!!! Can't get enough of my favorite show!! 🎉." "@valentin absolutely. I love both the fall and spring seasons," wrote a fourth fan. There are almost two dozen more comments expressing the same sentiment. We have to say, we would be completely on board with two seasons per year, the wayDancing With the Starsused to be. The last full spring season was eight years ago in season 24; there was a truncated season 26 featuring all professional athletes that only ran for four weeks in 2018. They can't possibly doDancing With the Starsin the middle of their football season, yet professional football players have a storied history on the show. Twenty-three NFL players have competed 24 times onDancing With the Stars—Emmitt Smithdid it twice — and they have finished at an average position of 5th place. Four NFL stars have won — Smith,Donald Driver,Rashad JenningsandHines Ward— and six others have finished in second or third place. Now, obviously, some of those NFL players were retired when they competed. Smith,Kurt WarnerandJerry Riceare among the NFL legends who competed after their playing days were over, and retired players have definitely competed in the fall. But several active players have danced on the show, and they have to compete in the spring. In fact, even retired players are often still involved in football in some way, either as a commentator or a coach or something similar, so that leaves the fall out as well, even if they are no longer actively playing professional football.
